Honoring the Women Who Came Before Us
There are moments when we pause and realize we didn’t arrive where we are by chance.
We were carried here by love, by sacrifice, by resilience, and by women who kept going even when the path ahead was unclear.
Lately, I have found myself reflecting deeply on the women who came before me. My grandmothers. My mother. My ancestors. The women whose names I know, and the ones whose stories live quietly in the spaces between memory and history.

Over the past few weeks, milestones passed. Anniversaries, birthdays, years since loss. And they stirred something in me. Not just grief, but gratitude. Gratitude for the women who survived hardship, raised families, built lives, and forged paths that made it possible for me to stand exactly where I am today.
Some of these women nurtured beauty through gardens and flowers.
Some created safety through homes filled with warmth and routine.
Some endured unimaginable loss and still chose to keep going.
Some raised children alone, working tirelessly without recognition.
And some were taken from their roots and forced to survive in ways no one ever should.
Each of them lit the way.
This reflection became a living trail of gratitude, Honoring the Women Who Came Before Us. Not something listed or separated, but something woven throughout the stories, the memories, and the lessons that surfaced along the way. Gratitude revealed itself through memory, through honoring, through recognition.

I was reminded that resilience doesn’t always look loud or heroic.
Often, it looks like getting up again.
Like loving when it’s hard.
Like showing up when no one is watching.
And I was reminded of this truth.
If you have ever wondered whether you make an impact, you do.
The way you live today is shaping the path for those who come after you.
This reflection is also a dedication through Brooklyn Lights the Way to the single mothers in my life and beyond. Women who wake up exhausted yet determined. Women who choose love, responsibility, and strength without applause. Women who redefine resilience every single day.
As we move forward, my hope is that this invites you to look back gently and intentionally at the people who made your life possible. To learn their names. To listen to their stories. To honor their survival, not as weight to carry, but as light to walk with.
Because you are not here by accident.
You are the continuation of their courage.
And in your own quiet, imperfect, beautiful way, you are lighting the way, too.

"The land remembers.
So I come here to listen,
to the ocean, to the wind,
to the echoes of those who came before me."
With Love and Gratitude,
Amber
