Becoming Someone I Enjoy Being With
How ordinary moments slowly changed my relationship with myself
There was a time when I thought being alone was something I needed to get through.
I didn't realize it then, but those quiet moments weren't empty.
They were making room for something I hadn't experienced before.
A relationship with myself.
The Unexpected Invitation
For most of my life, there was always something that needed my attention.
Work.
Family.
Responsibilities.
Then life slowly began to change.
The evenings became quieter, and for the first time in a long time, I found myself with space I didn't know what to do with.
At first, I tried to fill it.
Eventually, I stopped trying.
That's when something began to shift.
The Ordinary Places
Looking back, it wasn't one conversation or one life-changing moment that transformed me.
It happened in the ordinary places I returned to again and again.
A backyard where I found myself lingering a little longer.
A home that slowly became a reflection of our story.
A quiet Christmas that reminded me I could be gentle with myself when life didn't unfold the way I expected.
A garage that became a place to think, to cry, to laugh, and simply to be.
Sunrise trails that reminded me how much beauty had always been waiting for me to notice.
None of those places changed my life on their own.
Together, they gave me the space to grow.
Looking Back
One of the things I've come to appreciate most is that growth rarely announces itself.
Most of the time, we don't realize we're changing while it's happens.

We notice it later.
Maybe while sitting on a trail.
Maybe while reflecting on an old memory.
Or maybe one ordinary evening when we suddenly realize something feels different.
For me, that realization was simple.
Somewhere along the way...
being alone stopped feeling like something I needed to fill.
I had become someone I genuinely enjoyed spending time with.
A Thought to Carry With You
If you've been in a season where life feels quieter than it once did, I hope you'll remember this.
You don't have to rush to fill every empty space.
Sometimes those quiet moments are doing work we can't yet see.
Sometimes they're gently introducing us to the person we've been becoming all along.
Thank you for walking with me today.
